Frequently asked questions
Creating a productive garden requires a solid plan. By hiring someone like me, you can save time, prevent costly mistakes, maximize use of your available space, and grow more food with less guesswork.
I recommend that you start the planning process as early as possible. Most gardens in our area are planted between April and September but I always advise that people start planning in the fall so you're ready to hit the ground running once the snow melts.
First I'll have you fill out an intake form to gather information about your growing space and goals. Then we will have a conversation to see how I can best help you. From there I'll present you with a few options before providing you with your garden design, planting plan, and an other services that you choose.
The price of my garden designs starts at $600 which includes recommendations for preparation steps and materials, custom garden design and layout, shopping list for plants/seeds, and planting and maintenance calendars. Monthly coaching is also available as an additional option. Other factors that influence the price is the level of support you are looking for such as preparation of new garden areas and installation.
The basic garden design includes recommendations for preparation steps and materials, garden design and layout, shopping list for plants and seeds, considerations for companion plants, planting calendar including recommended dates for initial sowing and any successive sowings, maintenance calendar including mulching, pruning, etc., and guidance tailored to your space, goals, and experience.
I offer everything from coaching and design, to soil and garden preparation, and planting. I also offer maintenance packages so you can skip the tedious work and just sit back and enjoy the harvest.
In my experience, the biggest mistake new gardeners make is ignoring soil health. Starting with a solid foundation of healthy, active soil is the key to producing thriving plants. Second to that is doing too much all at once with no plan. Planting everything at once with no layout in mind is just a recipe for overwhelm and frustration.
You can grow a surprising amount of food in a small space, especially with a thoughtful plan in place. For example, vertical growing can significantly increase yield in a relatively small footprint.Similarly, there are a lot of plants that you can grow with minimal sun, such as leafy greens and herbs. By carefully planning out plant layout you can maximize sun exposure for the plants that need it most.

I get it, gardening can be time-consuming and not everyone wants to spend hours each week managing their garden. Through my careful planning, I strive to help busy families and homeowners grow easy to maintain gardens so that you don't have to uproot your lifestyle to have fresh vegetables.
