Step 1. Planning and Design

Starting with a solid plan is the key to success in any endeavour—and it's no different in the garden. The planning and design step starts with an overall vision and includes choosing the garden layout, orientation and location, as well as plant selection and planting plan. Through both video chats and an in-person consultation, we will discuss your goals for your garden considering your available space and local growing conditions to come up with a plan that meets your needs.

Step 2. Garden Preparation and Installation

This is where we lay the foundation for your garden to set you up for success. Using the right tools for the job, we'll prepare the area including removing any grass and loosening the underlying soil. Next we'll build the garden frame before filling it with high quality compost to support your future plants. We offer standard and custom garden frame options and a variety of accessories to enhance your overall space.

Step 3. Planting and Maintenance

You have a plan, your garden has been built, and it's full of fresh soil; it's time for planting! This is what I like to call the dirty work because it's when I take gloves off and get my hands into the soil. Whether it's  seeds or transplants, I'll take care of the planting for you according to the plan we developed in Step 1. This will include multiple visits to your garden during the spring to make sure everything is planted at the right time.

I'll also visit on a regular basis throughout the season, in accordance with your plan, to take care of regular maintenance such as weeding, mulching, staking or pruning. Then when all harvests are done and frost is looming, I will come back and clean up to get you ready for the following year.

Garden Design Options

Our garden designs consist of raised beds, which offer an efficient and productive way to garden. Raised beds provide better drainage, an opportunity for better soil quality, and easier access. They also warm up quicker in the spring, which extends the growing season slightly, and can easily accommodate hoop tunnels and/or floating row covers to keep heat in during cooler periods. Whether you're looking to maximize small spaces or create an accessible, low-maintenance garden, raised beds are a perfect solution for healthier plants and higher yields.

Our raised beds are made from 2x8 cedar lumber, which is naturally rot-resistant. To further extend the life of the wood, we treat the boards with food-grade linseed oil and seal all seams to reduce the chance of rotting. We offer standard and custom-built design options to suit your space and needs.
